Ubuntu 14.04 - GeForce 670X - after installing the Nvidia driver Unity won't load - the screen is bl

This are my setting:

  • Ubuntu 14.04
  • GeForce GTX 670
  • Yamakasi Catleap Q270 SE LED S-IPS Monitor (DVI connection)

I’m trying to install CUDA, but after I install the Nvidia GPU drivers on the next boot after GRUB the screen will be pitch-black.

I’ve generated the attached logs after installing the drivers from the specific .deb package downloaded from https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads.
I repeated the procedure several times, using different version of the drivers and different sources (i.e., nvidia download center, ubuntu’s standard repos, and the xorgs-edgers ppa).
The GUI was compromised in all these attempt.

I’ve previously used this desktop/monitor with the default noveau drives / Nvidia drivers on windows with no reported issue.
