Ubuntu 20.04 Problem Installing CUDA & Nvidia driver

Hi I have a Dell laptop G5-5500 with following specs:

GPU: GTX 1650 4GB
OS: Ubuntu 20.04

I’m trying to install nvidia drivers and CUDA but rebooting the device after installations results in a getting stuck at Dell logo. It doesn’t move forward and fails to boot up.

Installation procedure:

  1. Installed Nvidia driver (460) using GUI from software & updates.
  2. Then installed CUDA-11-3 using the instruction here: CUDA Toolkit 11.7 Update 1 Downloads | NVIDIA Developer

Nvidia-smi shows up the GPU card and everything but the laptop doesn’t boot up.
I have tried various solution like changing bios settings but it didn’t help.

Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Hi,

I have the exact same problem.
Installed Nvidia driver, Cuda toolkit and cuDNN.

Everything works fine but then the laptop freezes at Dell logo after reboot.

I re-installed everything several times, got the same behavior everytime.

Have you found any solution ?
