Ubuntu 9.10 installation problems

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has tried the installing the “NVIDIA Driver 190.18 Beta for Linux (Ubuntu 9.04) with CUDA Support” but on Ubuntu 9.10 the latest version of Ubuntu? I tried to install it this weekend but when I tried to restart my x-server after going through the installer questions, all I received was a flickering terminal screen and an unresponsive keyboard.

Do I need to uninstall the NVidia driver that Ubuntu kindly installs for me?

I am a bit stuck.

Also, if it happens again, is there an uninstaller that can be accessed in recovery mode? (I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10 because I couldn’t get it to work…)

Any help here would be very much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Andrew

I am using that exactly OS/Driver combination and have been for about two months with no problems. You do have to remove the existing Ubuntu drivers and the nvidia-kernel-common module before running the NVIDIA installer. After that it should just work.

Thanks avidday. It is now working - I had not uninstalled the previous driver and it was causing me grief. Andrew

[Edit: For anyone also needing to uninstall the previous drivers, I found the envyng utility to be very easy to use]
