Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04.1 nVidia Legacy Driver 304.132 crashing
Kodi after apt dist-upgrade

Ubuntu Version:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (32-Bit i386)
Release: 16.04
Codename: xenial
Linux Kernel Version: 4.4.0-47-generic (i386 32-Bit)

I hope someone can help me. I have recently updated my graphics drivers as per routine system updates and it has caused my Kodi install to repeatedly crash in both standalone mode and executing via LXDE desktop with LightDM.

Here are the driver details (using the driver provided in the “Additional Drivers” tab in Ubuntu:

dpkg -l | grep nvidia

ii nvidia-304 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 i386 NVIDIA legacy binary driver - version 304.132
ii nvidia-opencl-icd-304 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 i386 NVIDIA OpenCL ICD
ii nvidia-settings 361.42-0ubuntu1 i386 Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

Here are the hardware details of the GPU:

sudo lspci -v

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
	Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp. NV44A [GeForce 6200]
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 248, IRQ 16
	Memory at 94000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
	Memory at c0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable)
	Memory at 92000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
[virtual] Expansion ROM at e0000000 [disabled]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2
	Capabilities: [44] AGP version 3.0
	Kernel driver in use: nvidia
	Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia_304

The previous stable version of this driver did not cause Kodi to crash at startup and it is not just my model of GPU either.

I know it is an old card but other people on the Kodi forum are having the same issues.

I have tried purging and reinstalling the drivers with no result.

Please refer to this link to the Kodi forum:

Please fix this annoying bug or tell me if it can be fixed on my computer.

Thank you in advance.

I do not know what is going on but Kodi doesn’t look like it agrees with something
with the nVidia graphics driver.

I have got Kodi to startup automatically via the Lightdm method and it is getting stuck
in an endless crash loop producing crashlogs after a graphics card driver update (sudo apt-get dist-upgrade)
and now it has broken my kodi install.

Here is a pastebin of the logs I could get:

Kodi Crashlog:

Kodi Log:

Kodi Old Log:

This crash loop occurs when I use the Kodi Krypton Beta 5 or Kodi Kodi v16.1

Any ideas?

The nVidia Graphics driver I am using is:

304.132 with a nVidia GeForce 6200 AGP Graphics Card

I know it is a dinosaur but it was working fine up until I updated the GPU driver from 304.128 to 304.132.

Thank you for your help.

Problem has been solved with an nVidia driver update.

nVidia driver version: 304.134
GPU: nVidia GeForce 6200 AGP 8x
