UEFI + efifb + nVidia = No switch to tty / logout from any WM results in blank screen

I’ve seen this issue before but have seen no resolution.

Does nvidia support UEFI?

I’m running a Clevo p650 in UEFI mode - GeForce GTX 970M

Security is disabled, and as far as I can tell CSM is disabled (can’t confirm).

Using the nVidia driver, I am unable to switch out of X, regardless of window manager, into a tty (CTRL+ALT+F2, etc).

I can switch to the blank screen and go back to F7, but F1-6 don’t show any console/framebuffer, just a blank ‘lit’ screen.

Any ideas how to work around this, or will I be forced to boot into legacy BIOS mode?

an nVidia response would be wonderfully appreciated. Happy to provide BIOS screenshots if needed for configuration help.

dmesg output:

nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (92.3 KB)

Fresh install EFI - Issue persists: fb0: EFI VGA frame buffer device

Fresh install BIOS - Issue does not happen: fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device

Only difference is the EFI Framebuffer vs ‘vesafb’ framebuffer
