Hi, I have an Orin Nano that is running on:
Firmware version - 36.4.4
Jetpack 6.2.1 - flashed via balenaEtcher on a microSD card
When I plug in the power, I get the NVDIA logo startup as usual, but then the screen goes black (the fan is still spinning, the LED is still on…. hardware seems fine), and I get this flashing dash line on the very top left of my monitor.
What is wrong and how can I fix this?
Thank you.
Tony

The issue you’re experiencing with your Jetson Orin Nano, where the screen goes black after the NVIDIA logo startup, and you see a flashing dash line on the top left of your monitor, could be related to several factors. Here are some potential causes and solutions:
-
Insufficient Power: The Jetson Orin Nano requires a sufficient power supply to function properly. Ensure that your power supply can provide the required power. The recommended power supply for the Jetson Orin Nano is 12V, 5A.
-
Incorrect Boot Mode: The Jetson Orin Nano has different boot modes, and it’s possible that it’s not booting in the correct mode. Try pressing the recovery button (located next to the microSD card slot) while powering on the device to enter recovery mode.
-
Corrupted Boot Image: The boot image on your microSD card might be corrupted. Try re-flashing the image using balenaEtcher or the Linux dd command.
-
Incompatible Monitor: The Jetson Orin Nano might not be compatible with your monitor. Try using a different monitor or adjusting the display settings.
-
Thermal Issues: The Jetson Orin Nano can throttle its performance or shut down if it overheats. Ensure that your device is in a well-ventilated area and that the thermal solution is adequate.
-
Firmware Version: You mentioned that your device is running Firmware version 3644, Jetpack 621. Ensure that you’re running the latest firmware version. You can check for updates on the NVIDIA website.
-
Hardware Issues: There might be a hardware issue with your device. Try resetting the device to its factory settings or contacting NVIDIA support for further assistance.
In comparison to other similar issues, the “Black Screen and Fan Stops After Boot” issue on the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit (JetPack 5.1.3) might be related to a different cause, such as a hardware issue or a corrupted boot image. The “Booting issue” on the Jetson Orin Nano might be related to a software issue or a configuration problem.
To troubleshoot your issue, you can try the following steps:
- Check the power supply and ensure that it’s sufficient.
- Try pressing the recovery button while powering on the device to enter recovery mode.
- Re-flash the image using balenaEtcher or the Linux
dd command.
- Try using a different monitor or adjusting the display settings.
- Ensure that your device is in a well-ventilated area and that the thermal solution is adequate.
- Check for firmware updates on the NVIDIA website.
- Reset the device to its factory settings or contact NVIDIA support for further assistance.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to consider seeking further assistance from NVIDIA support or a professional developer.

Hi Carolyuu, I have tried the following and none has worked :
-
Replaced the monitor >> same symptom, the flashing dash line keeps flashing on the black screen
-
Replaced the power source >> same symptom
-
Tried to press the GND or the REC pin/button >> same symptom in both scenarios
-
Reflashed the SD card with the latest Jetpack, I have ensured my firmware is >36.0 >> same symptom
I do however, get this message on my screen before the screen goes pitch black with the flashing dash line (picture attached).
What should I do next?
