I am currently experiencing a persistent driver recognition issue on my laptop and would greatly appreciate any expert advice or recommendations from the community.

1. The Problem (Driver Recognition Error)

  • Hardware: I am using an MSI Laptop equipped with an RTX 5080 GPU.

  • Issue: After installing the latest drivers downloaded directly from the NVIDIA website, the GPU is still not recognized.

  • Error: When running the command nvidia-smi in the terminal, I consistently receive an error message stating that the driver cannot be found or recognized.

This issue is critical as it prevents the use of core NVIDIA technologies.

2. Request for Recommended System Configuration

To ensure stability for development, I am looking to purchase a new laptop/system that is known to work seamlessly with NVIDIA’s ecosystem. Could you please share recommendations for tested and confirmed working configurations?

I am specifically looking for:

  • 1) Confirmed Laptop/Desktop Model: (e.g., Dell XPS 15, Custom Build specs)

  • 2) NVIDIA GPU Model: (e.g., RTX 4090, RTX 5000 series, etc.)

  • 3) Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04 is preferred, but confirmation on stable use with Ubuntu 24.04 would also be highly valuable.

3. Isaac Sim Installation Guidance

We are also planning to utilize NVIDIA Isaac Sim for robotics projects. If any instructors or developers here have successfully installed and used Isaac Sim, could you please share any insights regarding:

  • Required Installation Scripts: Are there any specific setup scripts, Docker configurations, or workarounds necessary for a smooth installation on a clean Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 system?

  • Required Model Information: Are there any prerequisite asset packs, environment models, or specific software versions needed for initial setup and testing?

Can’t help with laptops, but for a desktop configuration I can confirm that an MSI motherboard (Mag Z790 Tomahawk Max Wifi) with RTX4080 runs Isaac Sim / Isaac ROS nicely with Ubuntu 24. Intel Core i9 / 64 GB.
