[USB 3.0 Bus Interference] Keyboard and Mouse delayed recognition when J64 burn port connected

Hi NVIDIA team,

We are experiencing a USB initialization delay issue on our custom Jetson Orin carrier board. Kindly help us analyze the root cause.

Hardware Information:

  • Custom-designed Jetson Orin carrier board (not the NVIDIA reference design)
  • J64: USB 3.0 Type-B physical connector, used for device flashing. We use a standard USB 3.0 cable for flashing
  • J19 / J29: USB 3.0 Host Ports, used to connect USB hubs, keyboard, and mouse

Problem Description:

Scenario 1:

  • USB keyboard and mouse (standard USB 2.0 devices) are connected to J19 / J29 or via a USB hub

  • At the same time, J64 port is physically connected to a PC using a USB 3.0 cable

  • System is in normal boot state (not in recovery or flashing mode)

  • Keyboard and mouse take 17 to 34 seconds to become usable

  • Repeated dmesg error messages:

usb usb2-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
usb usb2-port2: config error

Scenario 2:

  • Keyboard and mouse connected to J19 / J29 or USB hub
  • J64 port is not connected
  • Devices work immediately without delay

Request for Support:

  • Is this a known issue related to the Orin platform or custom board design?
  • Any official recommendations for hardware isolation to avoid USB 3.0 bus interference?
  • Are there software-level workarounds to reduce or eliminate this delay?

Thank you for your support!

Not a known issue.

It could be that you didn’t configure the USB device tree correctly.
