Using NVAR to trace the time to travel between an audio source and listener


I am a researcher at Cardiff University who uses ray tracing applications to time the transmission (given a transmission speed) between an audio source and receiver for the purposes of earthquake location. I am looking to implement NVIDIAs VRWorks technology to improve the application speed of ray tracing sound waves.

As I currently do not have the necessary hardware to run the demo scenes, is it possible to obtain the travel time between two point in a scene for a sound ray given a transmission speed of the material (in m/s)? Can refraction of the ray between materials be modelled?

If these points are possible then I will be able to put together a proposal to buy the necessary hardware and fund development with this topic.
