Has anyone tried using the USB ports on Xavier NX to power external items such as LED/Lasers? Is it possible to do this and if so, what are the limitations?
You’d have to power the NX itself via the barrel connector. USB has standards on how much power can be used over various types of USB connections, and there would not be enough for the Jetson itself if you powered it through USB.
For this to work, even with the barrel connector, your LED/laser would need to be fairly low power draw. It would probably work if the power draw is minimal, e.g., a few hundred milliampere, but after that you’d need an externally powered HUB (which stops from drawing current via the Jetson, and simultaneously increases the standard of how much current the port can provide).
