vBIOS LVDS 6-bit/8-bit output signal mode

Hello.
I’m trying to udnerstand how LVDS mode switching mode works in vBIOS. Does a videocard automatically recognize the bit mode of of an LVDS LCD panel?
Does the 6-bit or 8-bit mode have to be necessarily programmed in the vBIOS?
