vCenter/Horizon required for vmware deployment?

According to the manual, NVIDIA Virtual GPU (vGPU): VMware Deployment Guide - NVIDIA Docs, both vCenter and Horizon shall be installed.

For simple and small scale use case, is ESXi alone good enough, or vCenter/Horizon are must?

vCenter is needed. Horizon is optional
