I have lower power usage by my GPU on Linux, in comparison to Windows, despite setting prefer Maximum Performance settings, activating Persistence mode and setting power draw in nvidia-smi. Nothing changes, GPU uses from 20 to 50 less Watts in Linux, which leads to drastically lower levels of performance (FPS in demanding games is 2 to 3 times lower in comparison to the same GPU on W10). I am a newbie, so excuse me if I didn’t provide some add. info
My system in Linux Mint 21.3 on X
GPU is 1650S
Driver is 545.29.06
I have searched everything and there are no answeres about that, please help
Logs look normal. Which games exactly are you playing that exhibit this issue? Started through steam or something else? How do fps differ between linux and windows?
Humankind and Helldivers 2. AC: Origins was the same too until I turned off esync, fsync and turned on nvapi, then it went from 30 to 70 FPS. But the same doesn’t work for the former two. Humankind can go 40 to 60 fps at the beginning, but in 15 mins it’ll drop down to 15 fps, while W10 system shows slow drop to just 40, and in several hours, not in minutes. Helldivers just runs like ass no matter what I do, almost third of the FPS all the time (24 vs 70 on W10). Other games I run I haven’t really tested, because they are quite light so they go pretty well
I play HD2 via steam and Humankind with AC:O are not through Steam
HD2 seems to have some weird performance issue for some people (on Windows) where the cpu gets pegged at 100% but the gpu idles. Nobody has a clue why. Maybe this is some HT issue, please try using only the physical cores setting the game’s startup option in steam to WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=6:0,1,2,3,4,5 %command%
The Humankind solution didn’t help - the same abysmal FPS. About Helldivers, I’ll report tomorrow, since I need to redownload the game, though CPU was never clogging for me, neither on Linux, nor on Windows.
