What happened to vertex precision?

I’ve been sifting through old documentation of workstation graphics cards (specifically the 3d labs Wildcat Realizm 800 - a monster of its time) and it, and may other workstation cards of the time bragged about their higher-precision floating point rendering capability, which led to more crisp, clean visuals. Is this still a thing? I never see it mentioned anywhere anymore and I’m wondering now if it’s just an after-thought and it can more or less be software controlled in CUDA?
