I looked into buying Tesla cards (e.g. K20 or K10) but it seems like it is impossible to buy them separately. Instead you have to buy a complete system, like a workstation. Why can’t I just buy some Tesla cards the same way I buy Geforce cards?
As far as I know, the K10 and the K20 are modules (like M2050 and M2090) with passive cooling, designed to be integrated into servers, as opposed to plug-in cards for PCs with active cooling like C2050 and C2075. The following document includes a picture of K10 without the shroud:
Okay but why can’t you sell K20 with active cooling instead?
Seems like I might not be up-to-date on NVIDIA’s latest offerings. Have a look here:
You can order K20 boards (for PCs / workstations) from any of NVIDIA’s resellers. Just contact any of these guys

I tried to do that but they replied that I only can buy a complete workstation, not cards only.
Contact a different VAR – some sell only workstations, but most of them sell just boards too.
Its on NewEgg too.
You can purchase K20 boards at Newegg here: NVIDIA TESLA K20 (900-22081-2220-000) GK110 5GB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 3.52 Tflops Workstation Video Card - Newegg.com
Which reseller was not able to sell an individual board?
