Wifi/Multi-region support in TX1 SOM Module

TX1 has an on board Wifi Module BCM4354 which supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz… To comply with with local regulators in geographies like Japan, Europe, Singapore , Latin America etc, we will have to have different Wifi Frequencies at different geographies. And do not want to configure the WiFi module statically for different geographies. Can this module do a self check and set the WiFi frequency (2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz) based on the geography it is being used ? Intel has their own proprietary Solution called Dynamic Regulatory Solution (DRS) to solve this problem.

Will TX1 SOM will be able to offer similar features ? Do you have alternative method to suggest so that we can build a mechanism to do this?

Hi KuheliJ,

Thanks for raising this issue, I will check with the team if any suggestion to you on creating similar function as the Dynamic Regulatory Solution (DRS).
Before that, we only provide the compliance guide and certification for different regions as customer’s reference, you could find them from the download center:

Thanks

Hi KuheliJ,

Jetson TX1 was created with channels and power settings that meet the requirements for several countries and as such there is no need to know the country while operating in one of the approved countries.

The list of countries supported can be found in this document: https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/dlc/Jetson-TX1-OEM-Wireless-Compliance-Guide

Thanks

How do we actually set the region? I have a TX1 based board and country is being set through hostapd. However, it seems Broadcom driver doesn’t like it:

[ 12.777315] cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: CA
[ 12.784359] wl_cfg80211_reg_notifier : Set country code CA from User
[ 12.796712] WLDEV-ERROR) wldev_set_country : wldev_set_country: set country for CA as XR rev 122 failed
[ 12.806199] wl_cfg80211_reg_notifier : set country Failed :-23
[ 12.812247] cfg80211: Regulatory domain changed to country: CA

We use channel 44 that should use 17 dBm in North America, however the power settings on this wireless interface show 31 dBm.

Thanks

Hi APavlovich,

Country code is fused in fw as we shipped out.
