Hi All,
We installed the Nvidia driver version 384.66 for a Tesla K80 card on OpenSUSE 42.2 from the downloaded rpm from the official site.
Display is supposed to with with an Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller. After installing the Nvidia driver, the SDDM login screen & the window system fails to launch.
Also, nvidia-smi returns:
" NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running. "

Windows system launches & works fine after uninstalling the Nvidia driver… Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Please test with 384.90 driver [Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver | 384.90 | Linux 64-bit | NVIDIA](http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/123918/en-us)

Sorry, but the installation of this driver fails.. I’ve attached a snapshot of the error message below. It says "Unable to load kernel module ‘nvidia.ko’ "

[](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/st3r8010iej94z8/IMG_20170922_140244.jpg?dl=0)[External Media](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/st3r8010iej94z8/IMG_20170922_140244.jpg?dl=0 "Media hosted on another site. Click to open in a new tab.")

Now that there is no nvidia driver installed, the window system works fine.. but running the command
‘startx – -logverbose 6’ still gives an error saved in this \*.txt file

We bought this quite expensive Tesla card but have not yet been able to put it to use since months! Something as mundane as installing a driver on it seems such a painful task.. We do not want our display/window system to be run by the Tesla card, there is an integrated Intel graphics card on the motherboard for video/display.. this is supposed to be just for computation. Finding relevant info on this problem is also very hard!

Taken a look at the logs, there are underlying kernel problems regarding pci i/o so the nvidia driver failed to initialize correctly.
Didn’t look at the system specs but I think you should try a bios update and a more recent kernel.
