X11 Forwarding broken by driver update

We have a system running RHEL 8.5 with a P6000 Quadro card installed. A Comark Variable Action Button (VAB) display that runs ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS is also part of the overall system. From the system that has the P6000 card installed, an X11 window is sent to the VAB that lays the buttons down on the device. X11 forwarding works with driver 460.73.01 and we get the button display on the VAB. However, any update of that driver, to any version for the P6000 seems to break the X11 forwarding. What we see on the VAB is that the XServer and lightdm service is killed. What’s really puzzling is that the 460.73.01 is NOT a driver for the P6000 Quadro card.

I’m at a loss as to what could be causing this. Does anyone have any ideas as how to troubleshoot this issue?
