Xid 16 during gaming on wine

I start playing games, like Heroes of the Storm and others (Ragnarok, League of Legends, etc…) and, after a while, the screen crashes into a solid color (usually grey).

System still has sound running, making me think only the display stopped working.

What wine version? DX9 or DX11? Looks more like a wine bug to me.

Wine 2.14, but it has happened since I’ve owned this computer 3 years ago.
DX9 games.

wine bugs crash wine. Driver bugs cause the display engine to hang.

According to here, code 16 is a driver error

Driver error does not mean driver bug. It means that the client (wine) was doing funny things (simply put). When you say that this is happening for three years now in different games that are otherwise known to run fine, this might be due to misconfigured wine environtment in your home directory. Maybe some unneded overrides. Rename/move your wine environment then set up a game according to https://appdb.winehq.org/

I’ve changed the prefix numerous times through these 3 years and keep at least 5 prefixes around. All of them display this issue. The prefix was also copied to a notebook with Intel GPU and it doesn’t display the same issue
