Can gaming GPUs be used for Deep Learning development?

I would like to use a gaming GPU for Deep Learning training (like pny xlr8 geforce rtx 3090 gaming epic-x rgb 24gb can be used for deep learning).

I am aware that it is better to use Deep Learning specialized hardware, but would this gaming GPU do the job ? Which would be the main drawbacks ?
