SDKManager install JetPack release image to the target, it’ll perform a whole flash process to flash the board.
you may perform flash script for partition update to replace device tree binary.
please refer to Flash Script Usage to enable -k options.
for example, $ sudo ./flash.sh -r -k DTB jetson-nano-emmc mmcblk0p1

I mean, if the Jetpack installation doesn’t work, I don’t even have the flash.sh script and I won’t be able to swipe it.

In addition to Jetpack can be downloaded with SDKManager, is there any source code download

please access Jetson Nano Developer Kit SD Card Image through download center, there’re different version available.

it seems you’re having issue for reusing system image, had you ever create it before?
you should try to generate it locally, adding --no-flash commands if you would like to avoid board flash.
for example,

according to your post #6, you had execute this, $ ./flash.sh -r -k DTB jetson-nano-emmc mmcblk0p1,
and it reported system image did not exist failure,
for example,

so, suggest you generate system image locally, $ sudo ./flash.sh --no-flash jetson-nano-emmc mmcblk0p1;
this command line did NOT perform image flashing process.
it looks you had some success in post #10,

since there’s system image created, you may execute this command again for confirmation.

After I finish brushing DTB like this, the serial port connection is gone and the boot log cannot be seen

There is no update from you for a period, assuming this is not an issue any more.
