L4t-tensorrt:r8.0.1-runtime can't install nvidia-opencv to python3.8

I’ve realised this image :nvcr.io/nvidia/l4t-tensorrt:r8.0.1-runtime
Has python 2, 3.6 and 3.8 by default in the container python and python3 command are linked to python3.8 . Also pip.

The issue is:

I’ve managed to install nvidia https://repo.download.nvidia.com/jetson sources inside the repo, But when I install nvidia-opencv , I only get nvidia 4.1.1 EXCLUSIVELY in python 3.6.
python 3.8 hasn’t. What’s the issue?

I’ve trying to debug this, and I’ve noticed that every debian package installed with apt, finally points to python 3.6 and I really don’t know why.
"apt install python3-numpy "installs numpy in python 3.6. I’ve got to force with “apt install python3.8-numpy”. I don’t really what rules this for debian packages. In cases like numpy I can force 3.8 like I’ve said, but opencv is not possible.

Another important fact, why having an special nvidia-opencv library if it not compiled with cuda. (apparently…) :

root@agx1:/home/root# python3.6 getCV2Info.py

Since OpenCV is a common used library, we include it as one of the prebuilt packages.
However, we only have the C++ and python v3.6 version.

You can build it from source for the python 3.8 support.

But , I can’t even install python debian packages, because all of them aim to python3.6 . Even when python and python3 are linked to python3.8 . That is something that is not happening in my machine … and I wonder how to solve it

An talking about opencv, why is the prebuilt package not cuda enabled? Is strange that the cv2 info doesn’t have cuda info. There is not a YES, but NO isn’t present.

You can find some discussion on the following topic:

In short, we recommend using the VPI library which has been optimized for the Jetson device:

As a result, not all the OpenCV feature is enabled by just some essential.
