Hi Everyone, in order to take full advantage of my setup, I decided to enable RDP sessions, it works perfectly until I tried to open apps that requires hardware acceleration, e.g. VS Code installed locally and LibreOffice Calc.
As soon as one of them starts, the session crashes. After multiple sessions with AI Chatbots to help identify and resolve the problem I was unsuccessful, to a point where wayland never goes way and when I thought I got it replaced with Xorg, I couldn’t not sign in again, sign in works, it stays for 10 seconds, then the session closes so I had to rollback oll my changes.
Does anyone tried that and was successful ? If yes, can you please share the steps?
Am I understanding that both VS Code installed locally and LibreOffice Calc can run correctly when directly logged into the Spark, but do not run when launched from within an RDP Session? Which type of RDP Client are you using?
Correct, local apps works fine on local session, but when executed from RDP session, it closes the session, I’m using the default Windows remote desktop tool, (mstsc.exe) to access it.
I might need a bit more about your setup. On my system, I am using the “Ubuntu Desktop Sharing” option, I can connect via the mstsc RDP client and both LibreCalc and VS Code launch. What options have you setup on the Spark? Are you using “Ubuntu Desktop Sharing” or “Remote Login”? Is your Spark running headless?
It is headless and the Remote Control is enabled:
Whichever user is handling the RDP session, can you add them to the “video” and “render” groups. You may need to reboot after doing this as stopping and restarting the gnome-remote-desktop service did not seem to work for me. I ran the id command from a terminal in the RDP session, and it did not show the correct groups until I rebooted. Once I did this, I was able to get both apps to show up in my RDP session.
Thank you so much @kberger1, that did the trick.
