RTX KIT FAQ

Q: Who is NVIDIA RTX Kit for?

A: NVIDIA RTX Kit is for developers looking to push the fidelity of real-time graphics while delivering maximum performance. It features algorithms for AI compression and approximation of textures, shaders and materials, geometry and lighting algorithms to simulate real-life and character rendering technologies to create photoreal game characters.

Q: Is NVIDIA RTX Kit an SDK with its own library and sample application?

A: No, NVIDIA RTX Kit does not feature any library code of its own. It is the name for our collection of next generation neural rendering SDKs. Developers will be able to access the included SDKs via GitHub.

Q: What are RTX Neural Shaders?

A: RTX Neural Shaders is a groundbreaking programming model that enables training and deployment of neural networks directly within shaders.

Q: How is neural shading improving traditional shaders?

A: By including neural nets in shaders, we are able to leverage their strengths, including more compressed code and data, and fast and high quality approximations of computationally expensive functions. This can result in lower VRAM consumption, smaller game sizes and CGI quality assets at game-ready performance.

Q: Do RTX Neural Shaders use RTX Tensor Cores?

A: Yes, RTX Neural Shaders and its applications leverage RTX Tensor Cores for accelerated inference for game-ready performance. Microsoft is enabling access to RTX Tensor Cores for all DirectX developers in the future.

Q: Will RTX Neural Texture Compression reduce VRAM usage or my game file size?

A: RTX Neural Texture Compression can either reduce video or system memory based on developer implementation.

Q: Are AI-compressed textures using neural shaders consistently recreated, or can slight variations occur between users?

A: Given the same input data, the RTX Neural Texture Compression algorithm will always produce the same compressed output.

Q: What are the new Geometry and Lighting features?

A: RTX Mega Geometry enables developers to produce up to 100x more ray-traced triangles by organizing acceleration structures more efficiently. Complex geometry has accurate lighting through RTX Dynamic Illumination with the latest ReSTIR-PT algorithm that focuses on the most impactful light paths. RTX Global Illumination uses an AI-powered algorithm called Neural Radiance Cache, which reduces the requirements in tracing bounces and infers infinite secondary bounces

Q: How easy is it to implement Mega Geometry to any engine (Unreal Engine 5 or proprietary)?

A: For Unreal Engine 5 Developers, RTX Mega Geometry will be coming soon to the NVIDIA Branch of Unreal Engine, where you can simply toggle it on in your project.

For custom engines, the RTX Mega Geometry SDK requires a cluster based geometry system and integration effort will vary.

Q: Is RTX Skin and Hair only for rendering humans?

A: No. For example, RTX Skin enables better quality translucent surfaces and RTX Hair enables better quality animal fur.

Q: What are the hardware requirements for NVIDIA RTX Kit?

A: NVIDIA RTX Kit is a suite of SDKs, each with their own specific hardware requirements. NVIDIA RTX Kit is designed to run on a range of ray traced enabled hardware and is accelerated on the latest NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs.

Q: Will NVIDIA RTX Kit run on non-NVIDIA hardware?

Yes, many of the technologies in NVIDIA RTX Kit will run on non-NVIDIA GPUs. However, there are some exceptions such as NVIDIA DLSS, Neural Radiance Cache, and Line Swept Spheres that leverage the latest innovations in RTX GPUs. Please refer to the specific SDK GitHub repo for more details on individual system requirements.

Q: Does NVIDIA RTX Kit change how we distribute our SDKs today?

A: No, our RTX SDKs will continue to be distributed on GitHub.

Q: How does NVIDIA RTX Kit differ from NVIDIA Gameworks?

A: NVIDIA RTX Kit does not feature any library code of its own. It is the name for our collection of next generation neural rendering SDKs. Developers will be able to access the included SDKs via GitHub

Q: How can a developer get started with NVIDIA RTX Kit?

A: Visit our NVIDIA RTX Kit page to learn more and download the latest SDKs today.

Q: What games use NVIDIA RTX Kit?

A: Over 700 games and applications have integrated technology available via NVIDIA RTX Kit for better visuals, responsiveness and performance.

Q: Is RTX Kit compatible with Unreal Engine 5?

A: Yes, several of the NVIDIA RTX Kit technologies are available through the NVIDIA Branch of Unreal Engine 5 (NvRTX) today with more coming soon.

Q: What graphics APIs does NVIDIA RTX Kit support?

A: NVIDIA RTX Kit technologies support DirectX and Vulkan.

Q: Does NVIDIA RTX Kit work on game consoles?

A: Yes, many of the technologies in NVIDIA RTX Kit will run on non-NVIDIA GPUs. However, there are some exceptions such as NVIDIA DLSS, Neural Radiance Cache, and Line Swept Spheres that leverage the latest innovations in RTX GPUs. Please refer to the NVIDIA Developer Portal and the specific SDK GitHub repo for more details on individual system requirements.
