That is why I adamantly refused moderator status when it was suggested to me back in the days :-) One way to deal with this may be to explicitly state when you are engaging in intelligent speculation, rather than providing statements of facts.

That would match my thinking (either 6 or 8), and which is why I found 7 to be weird. I would also have expected for NVIDIA to fuse off surplus copy engines for GPUs with PCIe interface. As far as I understand PCIe, it does not support split transactions, so more than two copy engines (one per direction) are of no use. I guess the fact that all copy engines remained enabled is indicative of a scenario where NVIDIA had accumulated enough V100s with a broken HBM2 partition while equipping supercomputers that a product had to be created a.s.a.p. to monetize these otherwise functional parts.
