(1) Tesla K10 & (1) Tesla K20, CentOS 6.4 - <nvidia-settings> not displaying cards

Hi All,

I am building a single system with (1) Tesla K10 and (1) Tesla K20. CentOS 6.4 is installed on the system. I have installed the 319.49 drivers.

The ‘lspci | grep -i nvidia’ shows (2) NVIDIA cards. The ‘nvidia-smi’ command returns that it sees 1 x K20, and 2 x K10. This was a little unusual since there is only 1 x K10 in the system.

Also, the cards are not being recognized by the ‘nvidia-settings’ command. I may be incorrect, but I thought that the ‘nvidia-settings’ command allows for you to change the settings on each card, but I cannot see any cards here.

I have the ‘nvidia-bug-report.log’ file, but I cannot figure out how to attach it on these forums. Can anyone help me out there?

Can you please attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.gz file that you generated after starting X with the NVIDIA driver enabled? If your Tesla cards don’t support graphics, they currently won’t show up in nvidia-settings. It’s on my list of things to do to add support for showing compute-only cards in nvidia-settings, but until then you should be able to use nvidia-smi to query and configure them.

The Tesla K10 board has two GPUs on it, which is why there are two K10 devices listed.

Correct. You can still use them with CUDA, they just don’t show up in nvidia-settings right now.

Hi Aaron,

Attached you will find the ‘nvidia-bug-report’ from after I ran ‘nvidia-xconfig’ and attempted to run ‘startx’. The system will not allow me to ‘startx’, I am guessing this is because these cards are Compute-only and the motherboard graphics cannot use the ‘nvidia’ driver. I am also attaching a copy of the ‘Xorg.0.log’ which shows what happens when I try to ‘startx’.

The reason I am trying to start X with the NVIDIA driver is because I have also installed CUDA on this system, and the CUDA samples will not display properly using the standard X driver.

Since these are compute-only cards, will I never be able to see any graphics from CUDA? Or is there a way to utilize the NVIDIA graphics driver by using X11 forwarding in SSH or something along those lines? I have tried NoMachine, which I cannot get to use the NVIDIA drivers either.

Any help you can throw my way is greatly appreciated.

Hi Aaron,

Are there any CUDA tests that I can run without graphics? Just to make sure that CUDA is installed and working properly? If so, that can be my final solution. All of this is simply to test CUDA.

Please let me know if you can think of anything.

Hi Aaron,

Nevermind, I’m dumb. I am in the habit of always using the ‘2_graphics’ samples which are provided with CUDA. I just compiled and ran several ‘0_simple’ tests, and they all work great.
