There seems to be a performance regression when resuming from sleep.

In Hellblade 2, I usually get around 45-50fps. If I sleep my machine and then resume and launch the game again, that number drops down to 39fps.

I’ve tested this with both the open and proprietary kernel modules and even tried the nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0 kernel boot option when using the proprietary module. They all exhibited the same behavior. This also happens in X11. Whenever the issue occurs, I notice that my GPU usage usually hovers around 75%.

Anyone else seeing this?

NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations and associated systemd services are enabled.

EDIT: The issue seems to impact Hellblade 2 only, or at least I am not seeing the same performance impact in other UE5 games. This game also seems to cause a ton of log spam in journalctl:

EDIT 2: So it seems like there’s performance regression across all games if you suspend and resume in the middle of playing a game. Games like Hellblade 2 and Pacific Drive slow down dramatically, while other games like Lords of the Fallen start exhibiting small microstutters. Most games fix themselves if you relaunch them. The exception is Hellblade 2, which will perform terribly until the entire system is restarted.
