Autonomous Driving COVID-19 Detecting Robot with Xavier AGX

Hello everyone!
My name is Peter Kim from South Korea.

I want to introduce our COVID-911 project:)
We made an Autonomous Driving COVID-19 Detecting Robot using NVIDIA Xavier AGX

As the COVID-19 is getting worse and people are being exposed to the virus, we made an autonomous driving robot that patrols inside the building and check if people are wearing mask(properly) or not.

We used three HOT rising IT techs

  • Autonomous Driving
  • Deep Learning
  • Computer Vision

Here is the overall project video! I hope you guys enjoy it.

https://youtu.be/5f1vN644pEo

It drives autonomously using only 2D LiDAR and one camera. It drives autonomously by calculating the forward, left and right side’s distances data given by 2D LiDAR. It stops when people’s foot is detected using the camera installed on the lower side of the robot. Then it checks if people are wearing mask using the camera installed on the upper side of the robot.

Not only it detects if people are wearing mask or not, but it can also specifically identify if they are wearing mask properly (covering both their mouth and noes). A alert sound will be played if they are not wearing their mask properly and wait to say thank you until it confirms that the detected person wore mask fully.

This is a H/W block diagram of our robot.

Our project code and further informations are displayed here at

Feel free to ask any questions!

Thank you:)
