Cuda-gdb in visual studio code with Nsight doesn't catch breakpoints when declaring std::string

I have visual studio code set up with Nsight. My code runs remotely through ssh on a server with a 1080Ti. The following code will catch breakpoints (I placed one on line 5):

int main(){
    // std::string test;
    return 0;
}

with the following cuda-gdb output:
