Does anyone have the experience of getting stuck at initial setup?
I got two Sparks this week and tried to set them up for work. Ran into “unexpected error” when doing initial setup with the OS that came with the box. Then I followed the user guide and reflashed the SSD with the latest image “1.145.33”. The initial setup was fine and got to “Almost done” page, then it never moved. Waited for hours, and let it sit overnight, but nothing changes.
So far I’ve tried:
- Reflashed with an earlier OS image “1.91.51” and got to “Unexpected error” like the Factory OS ver.
- Use Wifi or ethernet cable, but still got to “Almost done” and get stuck
- Use Wifi at home and iPhone hotspot, still got to “Almost done”.
- Use the skip button in wifi connection and still the same.
- Tried the power drain trick on the forum but no luck.
Does anyone know how to get through the initial setup?
Thanks in advance.

During that phase, the device is likely rebooting.
- Are you running setup through headless setup or do you have a monitor attached?
- During the setup, do you notice the system turning off? Does it turn back on?
Trying the initial setup again with 1.145.33 image and skip wifi mode. Supposedly this should have nothing to do with internet connection. So far no reboot and when I tried to reboot it, the OS goes back to the start of initial setup and the process starts all over again. I have two units with the same issue with the same image ver. Could really use some help.
The spark has been running at Almost done page for 4 hours. No sign of rebooting yet. Also found that the spark-hotspot can be found and connected, which then shows the same Almost done page on the http://spark-ssid.local page and then “Your spark is rebooting” with a confirm button, but the Spark is not rebooting and still at the Almost done page on the monitor.
Our engineers believe there may be an issue during user account creation which is stopping the setup from progressing. Could you try using a different username and password, something simple with basic characters, and see if that works?
With your suggestion, I tried 3-character username and 8-character password, both containing only lowercase letters. Still no luck.
And just out of curiosity, I thought maybe it’s because the username is too short. So I tried a longer username, 10-character all lowercase letters. And it worked… Now I’m able to login.
I’m beyond speechless, but thanks for your help.
I will update my ticket to the support team and suggest a fix on this.
