GPU clock bug - looks like 5 min wait is enough

I tried to add a comment to my original thread but it got closed yesterday (threads on this forum close automatically after 14 days from the last comment).

Anyway. I’m using the Asus GX10. There is a bug where the GPU clock drops, and the GPU in general becomes very slow. The fix is to power off the machine, completely disconnect it from the power supply, wait for a while, plug it back in, then check the GPU clock. Repeat if necessary.

The old thread got various comments mentioning a wait time of 30 minutes. Today I only did a 5 min wait and it worked. So:

  • power off
  • disconnect the power brick on both sides (device and AC socket)
  • wait 5 minutes
  • plug it back in
  • boot up
  • check GPU clock

It was fine at that point.

No need to wait - you need to power drain:

  • disconnect a power brick from the socket (not from the unit)
  • press power button and hold - it will suck the last electricity from the capacitors (5-10 secs)
  • connect back

The issue is apparently in power control circuits in the PSU, not in the GPU or unit itself - it limits amount of power/voltage supplied to the unit as it gets stuck in some safety protocol
