Hello everyone,
My GPU frequently crashes when I’m gaming on CachyOS with the latest NVIDIA-Driver.
The behaviour is as follows: While I’m gaming, all screens turn black. music or sounds keep playing but there’s no signal being put out to them. This resolves after a reboot, however after some time gaming, it occurs again. Apparently, this only happens when external monitors are connected to my laptop.
The journalctl shows the following error:
“kernel: nvidia-modeset: ERROR: GPU:0: Failed to query display engine channel state: 0x0000c67e:4:0:0x0000000f”
My system looks as follows:
-
OS: CachyOS x86_64
-
Host: AORUS 15P XC
-
Kernel: Linux 6.17.4-4-cachyos
-
DE: KDE Plasma 6.5.0
-
WM: Kwin (X11)
-
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-10870H (16) @ 5.00 GHz
-
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile / Max-Q [Discrete]
-
Memory: 32 GB DDR4 RAM
-
Current NVIDIA Driver: 580.95.05
So far, I have tried the following things, all without success:
-
Reinstalling GPU drivers
-
Switching to different GPU drivers (such as nvidia-open, nvidia-dkms and so on and so forth) - switching my DE (wayland to x11)
-
reinstalling my system
-
switching to a different kernel (LTS kernel for example)
-
setting nvidia-drm.modeset=1
-
ensuring my power-settings are always set to max performance
-
using different proton version, while also ensuring that options like “game-performance” and “prime-run” are being used by steam
I’m currently at my wits end and don’t know what else I can try. I don’t want to switch back to windows. I didn’t have these issues on win11. Can you help me with this? It’s urgent.
