Gpu error on boot

Hi,

I’ve got a boot problem on Nano after flashing the SD with Etcher and image created over jetson-disk-image-creator.sh script or Image downloaded from Nvidia downloads.

Create an image:
sudo ./jetson-disk-image-creator.sh -o sd-blob.img -s 16G -b jetson-nano -r 100

On first boot I was able to configure init setup, but after restart, nano wouldn’t boot. Serial Log is on the end.

I flashed Nano over ./flash.sh script and it was OK.
Browsing through the forum I’ve encountered on suggestions to flash over SDK, not with downloaded image from Nvidia downloads or over etcher and jetson-disk-image-creator.sh.

Could you explain this? Do flash procedures depend on HW(dev kit versions)?

Actually, your error looks different and another gpu error requires many times of reboot to reproduce. Do you hit this error in every boot up?

what I could see is that on boot process I got FAILURE message “Failed to start nvpmodel service”

Edit: Using ./flash.sh with this patch brings up the same failure.

Revisions do have differences, both in flashing and dev kit carrier board differences. a01 versus b01, but I couldn’t tell you if this matters for your case.

I would guess maybe the gpu patch causes nvpmodel fails to load up because some nodes are missing,
or maybe nvpmodel is not working from the beginning. Actually. your error seems have nothing to do with that patch.
The next debug method is to enable more verbose log in uart. Please remove the “quiet” in /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf and boot up again. You would have more log this time.

The flash script should handle the case of different hardware. Also, we notice the sdcard image is much unstable than flashing by sdkmanager.

That is why we need to know

  1. What kind of sdcard are you using ? Have you tried with different sdcard?
  2. Is the gpu error persistent in every boot up?
  3. Before applying the patch, are you able to see the ubuntu desktop on monitor?
  4. I see the uart console still has login prompt, is it able to login?

It was because of my mistake (custom kernel image name).

[With patch]

  • On first boot(after initial configuration), the system booted successfully. Before that, I flashed the nano with flash.sh script(successfully). It seems that some old flash config was taken first, could that be?
  • After reboot, I’ve got the same error and system reboots after some time. I couldn’t get a successful boot after.

I think it is probably either a hw issue or sdcard issue. Do you have only one jetson Nano to test?
