GPU has fallen off the bus

Hello, I’m currently running an RTX 4070Ti, and it has been frequently crashing with “GPU has fallen off the bus” in syslogs. I’ve had the issue on windows 10 and currently Pop-os. I can’t seem to pinpoint the issue to anything related to hardware, like temperature (never need it over 85), or power (Had power logging on while it crashed and it reported just using like 13W?)

I’ve attached the logs I was able to find, and im happy to produce more. I’m still getting to know how to navigate linux so any pointer on how to produce any specific logs would be greatly appreciated.

Currently I am trying to write this with the side panel of, based on another thread where the cause seemed to be the panel slightly bending the power cables. Waiting results.

It seems to get more and more frequent when it happens, to the point where i try resocketing and blowing on every cable plugged into the GPU. It will calm down for a little while then. The card is still within warranty if that’s a better solution. I’ve had it crash during gaming and with just chrome open writing this ticket.

Hi there @thomas248 and welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.

The error log entry regarding “fallen off the bus” indicates Xid value 79 which most often is connected to actual Hardware failure. The fact that you saw the issues both on Windows and two different Linux OSs strengthens that diagnosis I think.

So first you should check the GPU i a different PC to rule out issues with the motherboard. If it still malfunctions, return it.

Also take a look at the dedicated Linux category here, there were many other users with similar issues over the years.

Thanks!
