How to Connect a ConnectX Adapter Using an NVMe PCIe 5.0 x4 via 3 MCIO Connector

Hello,
Until recently, I have been using ConnectX-4 and ConnectX-5 adapters, specifically the MCX555A and MCX456A models, installed in PCIe 5.0 x16 slots. However, I am now facing a situation where my PC no longer has any available PCIe slots, and I would like to explore alternative ways to connect these adapters.

I am currently using a Supermicro X13 DEI-T motherboard. In addition to the standard PCIe slots, this board provides several connectors labeled “NVMe ports PCIe 5.0 x4 via 3 MCIO Connector.” I am interested in whether these MCIO connectors can be used to connect an RDMA-capable network adapter, even if it is not one of the ConnectX models I have previously used.

More specifically, I would like to know:

  • Whether there are any RDMA network cards that can be connected via an NVMe PCIe 5.0 x4 via 3 MCIO Connector

  • Whether existing ConnectX adapters, or alternative RDMA-capable products, can be used through this interface

  • Whether it is feasible to use intermediate components such as MCIO-to-PCIe adapter cables or expansion brackets to make such a connection possible

If there are any compatible products or proven configurations, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

The PCIE requirement is described in the below link.

PCI Express Interface

Connecting Connectx card to an NVMe slots is not expected to work.
