I think more legal cases will pop up. It will be important to consider the legal aspect of AI application moving forward. China might actually has advantage here, their tech sector can do anything except threaten CCP rules so their AI developers might actually have more “freedom” than western counter parts. It is difficult to predict the result.

Well, we can scratch Germany off the list of ever competing in the AI age.
Comes on the heels of the Canadian Supreme Court telling AirCanada they were bound by the commitments their AI Chat bot made on bereavement airfares. Air Canada tried the well it’s an AI it makes mistakes. Court said it’s your representative you are responsible for what it says
I think this was always going to be the case. Search companies were able to show incorrect and legally actionable information such as libel because they were not the primary source; they simply indexed the content and returned it in search results. Now that they are the primary source of information, they are to be held liable for their actions. This could grow quite costly under the current paradigm of returning the LLM’s response.
If they were to alter the system to instead have an agent perform a search query, ascertain the requested information, and provide a response that cites sources, I think the search companies would be in a better position. Of course, this is much more expensive to them than the old search and LLM response model was.
I think the problem with AI is not only about legal issue. Recent ban on Fable point to a direction where government will interfer with regulation. The speed is also terrifying. Fable is banned without warning and grace period. Imagine your business depends on tool that can be turned off overnight. Local AI is way to go until things settled down.
