Nvidia and Linux both broken with latest versions (565+ 6.12+)

Hi guys hope you are doing well

Just wanted to report my experience, since it seems people don’t say
much when it comes to linux, that the latest versions of both the Nvidia
driver as well as the Linux kernel itself are having compatibility issues that make it impossible to use them together on a system customized for the maximum level of gaming performance linux has to offer right now. (professional e-sports gaming level performance)

I took a break from gaming for awhile so I can’t remember the exact versions involved, but I recognized this problem months ago after the Linux Kernel started doing point upgrades after 6.12.1 I think, or maybe it was 6.13.

Basically using the rt kernel, or rt capabilities is a must for extremely ultra high performance low latency hyper speed gaming , and after nvidia introduced version 570 this created some new critical issue(desktop crashing/apps crashing) combined with the 6.12.1 kernel, which is the best one right now based on my limited testing for using the rt features.

Using later kernel versions creates new problems with applications and the entire desktop crashing, so I haven’t spent much time testing them, opting to stick to 6.12.1 with a HYPER gaming configuration, that lets me play around with the rt features and the ultimate gaming performance linux has to offer right now.

edit:

Okay so I tested the 575 beta, and 570, with 6.12.1 which both cause applications to crash, and eventually the entire desktop to crash with the RT kernel.

Then I figured, “you know what, who wouldn’t want a light speed gaming experience with the ultimate performance linux can possibly offer right now”

So I started over, with a root only HYPER Linux build, and the magic combo of

the 565 nvidia driver and the 6.12.1 kernel

on a jammy ubuntu like base, now everything is working perfectly. (I tried using the 560 nvidia driver first, but it wouldn’t build properly against the 6.12.1 kernel)

It’s typically the case in my experience that specific kernel versions, and specific nvidia driver versions, on top of specific desktop distributions, work really well together, and otherwise do not work really well. When everything lines up, it’s the most enjoyable computing experience around.
