NVIDIA RmInitAdapter failed! issue

HI Team,

We have recently attached a NVIDIA GPU to our ubuntu 20 VM through PCI from VMware vcenter sphere. Post that we have installed the necessary drivers and rebooted the VM post that we still do not detect drivers using nvidia-smi command.

I’ve also blacklisted nouveau as well, but we still find these error.

Let us know a fix to issue

Hi there @bhavanap2201, welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.

From your logs:

So blacklisting of nouveau does not seem to have worked.

Also: → An alternate method of installing the NVIDIA driver was detected. (This is usually a package provided by your distributor.) A driver installed via that method may integrate better with your system than a driver installed by nvidia-installer.

Please review the message provided by the maintainer of this alternate installation method and decide how to proceed:

The NVIDIA driver provided by Ubuntu can be installed by launching the “Software & Updates” application, and by selecting the NVIDIA driver from the “Additional Drivers” tab.

If you see this you should either follow the recommendation of using the distribution installation method or do a clean uninstall of the existing drivers.
