Nvidia Spark - can't apt update

Hi,

I recently set up my DGX Spark and am encountering persistent 404 errors when running sudo apt update. It appears the system is attempting to fetch arm64 packages from the standard Ubuntu archive, which is returning “Not Found.” on some fetches

Error Examples:

  • E: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/noble/main/binary-arm64/Packages 404 Not Found

  • E: Failed to fetch snapshot.ppa.launchpadcontent.net... File has unexpected size

I’ve seen mentions online that this might be an NVIDIA CDN sync issue. Can anyone confirm if this is a known outage, or if my sources.list needs to be redirected to something else.

hmm, if you don’t mind me asking.. what’s “/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources” looking like?

Currently the only working solution that I was able to achieve is by backing up the original /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources file (delete original after creating the backup) and commenting out all entries in /etc/apt/sources.list to force the system to use alternative repositories." Currently it is now using the esm repos

Hi @xlordt, it appears from your original post that your apt command is pulling from a lot of different sources which are not default on the Spark. You should be pulling from ports.ubuntu.com, not archive.ubuntu.com as is show in your image.
What did your original /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources look like? It should look something like this

URIs: http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/
Suites: noble noble-updates noble-backports
Components: main restricted universe multiverse
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-keyring.gpg

Types: deb
URIs: http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/
Suites: noble-security
Components: main restricted universe multiverse

I’m not certain of the origin of this file. It was already present, and I did not create, add, or update it at all.

either way, things are back to normal after removing it. :)
