When the power-off button was pressed, a garbled screen and a blank screen appeared, and only then did the device shut down

After the development board is powered off by pressing the power button, the display connected via HDMI will first show a Snowflake Screen, and then a white screen will appear and the device will shut down instantly. And in severe cases, the screen will remain blank continuously and the device will not shut down.

The message when shutting down is as follows

Any help or relevant materials would be greatly appreciated

Hi @yihang.li

Which NVIDIA Jetson are you using?

Best,
Raffaello

Hi @Raffaello
We are using Jetson AGX Orin and jetpack 6.2.

Thank you!

Let me move this topic to the right section.

If I understand correctly, if you long-press the button on the side of the agx orin it will perform a hard shutdown that may result in file system corruption or data loss. That should be used as a last resort when the system is totally unresponsive; it is the equivalent to yanking out the power cord on a desktop computer.

It is better to shutdown an agx orin from within the operating system clicking the power button and picking Power Off. Or ssh into the orin and running

sudo shutdown
or
sudo reboot

Thank you for your solution, but we have already tried using the “reboot” command, which indeed doesn’t cause the snow screen issue. We haven’t attempted the “shutdown” command yet since I don’t have the development board with me at the moment, but I will test this method when I have access to the board later. However, the power-off button functionality is essential - it’s not intended to be a long-press forced shutdown, but rather a proper standard operation. This is an issue that needs to be resolved. But I currently have no idea how to approach this problem.

Hi yihang.li,

Are you using the custom carrier board for AGX Orin as there’s no HDMI port on the devkit?
What’s the Jetpack version in use?

Is your issue specific to “pressing the power button”?
Please help to clarify if you can reproduce the similar issue on the devkit and share the full serial console log as file for further check.

I am sorry for the late reply.

Yes, we are using our own custom board, and we are using Jetpack 6.2.

We pressed the power button to shut down, just like turning off a computer, but the “snowflake screen” problem occurred.

We are using the devkit with a DP (DisplayPort) connection to the display, and the white screen issue still occurs, but the snow screen phenomenon does not appear. We apologize that we cannot provide logs at the moment because the USB port on this devkit is malfunctioning, preventing us from establishing a serial connection to our PC. The video below demonstrates the phenomenon when using the devkit.

What is white screen issue?

We would need the log to check if there’re any error when the issue occurs.

Please get another devkit and refer to the following instruction to capture log and verify.
NVIDIA Jetson Orin AGX - In Board - Getting in Board - Serial Console

You can also help to clarify if the issue is specific to current monitor. (i.e. please also verify with other monitor)

devkit_JetsonAgxOrin.log (3.8 KB)
This is the shutdown log from the development kit.
I currently do not have the custom AGX Orin carrier board available, so I am unable to retrieve the logs at the moment and will need to wait one or two days. In the development kit, a momentary white screen appears during shutdown before the system powers off. However, on our custom AGX Orin carrier board, the system first displays the patterned screen shown in the image below, followed by a white screen, and then shuts down.

tegra-mc 2c00000.memory-controller: nvdisplayr1: read @0x0000007fff2cec00: EMEM address decode error

Are you using a DP display connecting to the devkit directly?

We have gotten similar error reported from other customer and they checked the HW design and disabled a 3V from HW to fix the issue.
Please also help to review the design with your HW team.

shutdown.log (1.7 KB)
This is the shutdown log from our custom board, which uses an HDMI screen. The logs from our custom board also contain this error. We will first attempt to resolve it using this method

Will you hit the issue if your run shutdown command instead?

Please also verify with the latest Jetpack 6.2.1.
I would suggest you using another display to clarify if the issue is specific to current monitor.

We will also check if it can be reproduced on the AGX Orin devkit.

Confirmed, and the issue also occurs when using the reboot command.

We are using two monitors, and the issue occurs on both displays

Please try using the following command to check if there’s similar issue.

$ sudo shutdown -P now

Hello, I’ve resumed working on this issue. On our custom board, I used the command: $ sudo shutdown -P now , but the HDMI display still exhibits screen corruption. However, this isn’t the most critical problem. When using the power button (PWR) to shut down (hardware design identical to the devkit), there’s a chance the system gets stuck repeatedly outputting this error:

and fails to shut down properly (this issue does not occur with shutdown or reboot commands). How should I troubleshoot this problem?

Is this still an issue to support? Any result can be shared?

Yes, any outcome is acceptable. Currently, I don’t have access to the board, so I’m unable to verify some of my assumptions.

It seems the issue is specific to the custom carrier board.
Have you checked from HW side?

Or do you have custom design different from the devkit? If so, please share those info with us for further check.

Sorry, I’m not very familiar with the hardware side. I’ll need to discuss with our hardware lead before I can provide any feedback
