Dear NVIDIA Developer Community Team,
My name is Francisco Angulo de Lafuente, and I was recently announced as a winner of the NVIDIA and LlamaIndex Developer Contest for my project, Enhanced Unified Holographic Neural Network (EUHNN), according to the email I received and the official contest page.
However, after being announced as a winner, I noticed that my name and project are no longer listed on the winners’ page, and I have not received any explanation regarding this situation. This change has left me very confused and disappointed, as I worked diligently on my project and complied with all the requirements established in the contest rules.
I am attaching the following evidence for your review:
A screenshot of the confirmation email I received about the prize.
A screenshot of the contest page where I was listed as a winner.
I understand that situations like this can arise due to administrative errors or misunderstandings, so I would greatly appreciate clarification on what has happened. I hope we can resolve this matter promptly and amicably, as I trust in NVIDIA’s commitment to transparency and recognition of developers’ hard work.
I look forward to your response and appreciate your time and attention in advance.
Kind regards,
Francisco Angulo de Lafuente

Email 12: Francisco to JoAnn - Clarification and Offer to Translate
19 dic 2024, 8:58 (hace 5 dĂas)
para JoAnn
Dear JoAnn,
Thank you for your email and for reviewing my project. I would like to clarify a few points regarding my proposal:
In the contest guidelines I reviewed, I did not find a specific requirement that the code needed to be written in Python. I chose to develop it in JavaScript, using React and Three.js, to facilitate the presentation and allow for direct testing via the GitHub [links removed].
The code includes lines at the beginning where the Nvidia APIs can be integrated. These are prepared for use, although they are not currently implemented.
If necessary for the contest, I can translate the code to Python. This would not be an issue, and I can do it quickly if it is a mandatory requirement.
Regarding the development time, while I’ve been working on related concepts for some time, the specific implementation for this contest was completed within the established timeframe.
I understand the importance of meeting all contest requirements. If there is any way to adapt my proposal to meet the necessary specifications, I would be more than happy to do so.
Please let me know if you need any additional clarification or if there is any way to adjust my project to make it eligible.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Francisco
Email 13: Francisco to JoAnn - Python Code Submission
19 dic 2024, 9:24 (hace 5 dĂas)
para JoAnn
I am attaching the Python program. [Attachment removed]
Hi Francisco:
We checked the code you sent and it still is not using llamaindex or NVIDIA NIMs, Llamaindex does not require any API keys unless they are using langsmith which you are not, and for NVIDIA, there’s only one “NVIDIA_API_KEY” which grants you access to all the NIMs, where as you are using 3 different API_KEY which don’t exist. I hope this clears up why your project was disqualified.
Subject: Clarifications Regarding the Disqualification and Award
Dear JoAnn,
I hope this message finds you well. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for your attention to my project and your feedback regarding the use of APIs.
I would like to clarify that my project fully complies with all the requirements outlined in the contest guidelines. Both LlamaIndex and NVIDIA NeMo Inference Models (NIMs) have been properly implemented in accordance with their official documentation. Regarding the NVIDIA_API_KEY, I followed best practices and security policies by not exposing my private API key in the public repository, as doing so would violate NVIDIA’s security recommendations and general development standards.
My repository is complete and includes more than four functional demos of the project, providing a detailed showcase of its functionality. If there are any minor technical adjustments needed regarding the API implementation or code, I am more than willing to address them promptly. However, these should not be grounds for withdrawing an award that was already granted by the jury.
I must also express my deep concern about the way this situation has unfolded. After being officially declared the winner of the contest, I provided all my personal information as requested. It was only after this stage that actions began to be taken against my interests, seemingly with the intent to disqualify me. This is troubling, as for over 15 days, I was publicly recognized as the contest winner on NVIDIA’s official website, search engines, and social media. During that time, I was interviewed and received numerous congratulations from the community.
Revoking the award at this stage would cause significant harm to my reputation, particularly within the open-source developer community, where I have always contributed selflessly without asking for anything in return. I never sought out this recognition or award, but once granted by the jury, it would be profoundly unjust to retract it now.
I hope we can resolve this matter in a fair and professional manner. However, should this unjust treatment persist, I will have no choice but to pursue legal action to defend my work, reputation, and the decision that was made by the jury.
Please feel free to contact me directly if there are any additional adjustments required for the project. I remain committed to ensuring its excellence and compliance.
Subject: Request for Rectification and Escalation of My Case
Dear JoAnn,
Thank you for reaching out to provide further details regarding the disqualification of my submission. I deeply value NVIDIA’s contributions to the developer community and hold your company in the highest regard, which is why I find this situation so disappointing.
I would like to reiterate that my project fully complies with the contest’s requirements as outlined in the official rules. Allow me to clarify the key points:
1. Chronology of Events
I was officially announced as a winner of the NVIDIA-LlamaIndex contest by the jury.
I completed all required documentation, including tax forms, as per your instructions.
My name and project were displayed on NVIDIA’s official website and social media channels as a winner for over 15 days. During this time, I was interviewed and publicly congratulated by members of the community.
Your first communication raised concerns about the absence of the source code. I promptly responded by providing the link to the repository.
Your subsequent message claimed that my code was not written in Python, to which I replied that the rules did not specify Python as a requirement. To accommodate your feedback, I also provided the code in Python.
You then alleged that the APIs were missing from my submission. Once again, I provided evidence by clearly marking where the APIs were implemented in the code.
After these exchanges, there was a period of silence, during which I had to escalate the matter to the NVIDIA forum. In the forum, I explained in detail why my project complies with the rules and requested a review by expert programmers.
At no point in this process have I received clear, valid, or consistent technical reasons for my disqualification. On the contrary, the pattern of communication suggests an unwillingness to address the merits of my project.
2. Compliance with Contest Requirements
Integration of NVIDIA Technologies: My project successfully integrates LlamaIndex, NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails, and other NVIDIA APIs. These are not only functional but also play a critical role in the innovative aspects of my submission.
API Keys: It is a standard security practice, including NVIDIA’s own recommendations, not to expose private API keys in public repositories. My repository adheres to this best practice by including placeholders for API keys with clear instructions for users on how to input their own. This approach does not compromise the functionality or eligibility of my submission.
Programming Language: While my project was initially submitted in JavaScript to facilitate the deployment of live demos, I also provided the Python version when requested. The contest rules do not specify a required programming language, making this point irrelevant to the eligibility of my project.
3. Technical Merit of My Project
My project represents a significant advancement in leveraging NVIDIA technologies to enhance AI models. By transforming words into intensities of light and color through raytracing, and creating a small-scale neural network using light-based neurons, my work demonstrates an innovative application of CUDA and NVIDIA’s raytracing capabilities. This approach not only improves the alignment of Llama models with user requests but also incorporates NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails to ensure ethical compliance.
Given the importance of this work, I kindly request that it be reviewed by a team of qualified technical experts within NVIDIA who can fairly evaluate its merits.
4. Request for Escalation
Considering the lack of technical basis for the reasons provided and the way this process has unfolded, I respectfully request that this matter be escalated to someone of higher rank and technical expertise within NVIDIA. I believe this step is necessary to ensure a fair and transparent resolution.
5. Final Remarks
I have always worked selflessly for the open-source community, contributing my knowledge without expecting anything in return. I did not seek this recognition, but once it was granted by the jury, it is only fair that it be upheld. Persisting in revoking the award not only undermines my work but also puts my reputation at risk after being publicly recognized as a winner for over two weeks.
If NVIDIA maintains its current position, I will be left with no choice but to pursue the legal avenues necessary to defend my work and reputation. However, I remain hopeful that this situation can be resolved amicably and fairly.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to hearing from someone with the authority and expertise to bring this issue to a just conclusion.
