I was told Mellanox ConnectX-5 will support 100GBase-LR4 transceivers, but I was not able to fine an exact model of 100G Ethernet card with ConnectX-5 that will support LR4 transceivers. Anyone could help me to find a PCIE 100GE card that supports 100GBase-LR4? Or, is there any datasheet mentioning that CX-5 supporting 100GBase-LR4?
I think the manual is a bit outdated. As far as I can tell Mellanox offers the MMA1L10-CR 100GE LR-4 transceiver that works with all “QSFP28” ConnectX-5 adapters.
It seems MMA1L10-CR revision 1 requires 4.5w output power capability of the server’s PCIe slot, or revision 2 or greater requires 3.5 watt output capability of the server.
This will also work between Mellanox 100GE switches.
Cable and transceiver validation is an ongoing process. The ConnectX-5 firmware release notes are a more current source of interoperability info. For example, here is part of a table from “ConnectX5-FW-16_21_1000-release_notes”, from October 2017:
By the way, I am not so sure if 100GBASE-LR4 is still supported although the manual shows only the following as the supported Ethernet: 100GBASE-CR4, 100GBASE-KR4, 100GBASE-SR4, 56GBASER4,550G Ethernet Consortium, 40GBASE-CR4, 40GBASE-SR4, 40GBASELR4, 40GBASE-ER4, 25GBASE-CR/CR-S, 25GBASE-SR, 25GBASE-LR, 25G Ethernet Consortium, 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-ER,10GBASE-CX4, SGMII, 1000BASE-X
