Hello, I have updated the linux system to 24.04, update the NVIDIA-SMI 560.35.03, Driver Version: 560.35.03, CUDA Version: 12.6. However, when I run the dump or other code that use multiple gpu, it will occur errors “Unable to determine the device handle for GPU0000:17:00.0: Unknown Error”. When I type nvidia-smi, this error will occur. At this time, only 3 gpu can be detected, gpu 0 is not in the bus. Thing is that, after reboot, 4 gpu occur again. The error log is after I rebooting. What would this even accompolish? This wouldn’t fix multi monitor VRR right? I think we are stuck waiting for 570 beta.

I just replicated my results on latest git HEAD swaywm/wlroots. The performance issue is exactly the same. I’m currently still on 560.35.03.

I took a perf profile, and here is what i’m getting:

CPU goes 100% active on htop, and GPU is chilling.

Suspend / Resume fails with multiple monitors connected with the 560-35-03 drivers installed. This has been verified on two different systems, both System76 machines running PopOS 24 (still in development). Disconnecting additional monitors before booting avoids the issue.

I managed to fix the problem, but I tried many things at once, so I can’t tell which one fixed it. I did:

Finally, after doing this, it still didn’t work, but after restarting Sway, it got fixed! Can someone without problems check whether they have egl-x11 and/or egl-gbm installed?

I installed 560 last week and have ran into nothing but issues since. The main issue which may be solveable, since I have some terminal output for it, has to do with video playback. Previously I could open multiple instances of MPV to view projects I’m working on, but now I’m getting a “OpenGL error OUT_OF_MEMORY.” error if more than 2-3 are opened, dependent upon resolution apparently. If I check nvidia-smi though, there’s well over 6.5 GB of vram available, and my system has 128, so that isn’t the issue. Here’s the terminal output itself in case anyone has some ideas on what to try.

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

The other main issue I’m having which I don’t have any real clues at a cause for has to do with Steam and Lutris. The two refuse to be open at the same time on 560, and Lutris is frequently fully locking my system now (hence the lack of terminal output). I’ll probably just roll back to the last stable driver for 22.04 in a few days, but Dragon Age’s complaint about driver version when launching started me down this rabbit hole, so it would be nicer to find what is causing the issues instead.

Hello, I can’t install the proprietary drivers on my Solus Budgie system. Installing the 560 drivers and rebooting the system prevents me from booting, with these errors before the grub.

Error preparing initrd : Device Error
star_image() returned Device Error
StartImage failed : Device Error

The computer shuts down and restarts with this error in a loop.
My system is unusable…

laptop model: Asus FX553VE

At least for me, the driver version 535 was the last release where S3 sleep worked correctly. Every release after that has had at minimum the failure to restore the system into state where my X11 compositor (picom) would continue working correctly if multiple seats have been logged in.

And yes, I do have the kernel flag nvidia.NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 and the related service running. This has been enough to make version 550 somewhat usable.

Version 560 didn’t work even with all the allocations preserved.

Why not downgrade to version 550 and keep using the Wayland instead? Is there any reason to prefer version 560+ if those are too buggy?

Its the same for me. I’m on the 535 drivers because any newer drivers suspend doesn’t work. Or suspend works but resume doesn’t. Locks up on resume and have to reboot.

try suspend on latest nvidia 565 with kernel 6.12. seems to have resolved all of the suspend issues for me, my wallpaper daemon, discord client, etc all stay open every time and I can successfully wake every time.

Thanks for your reply/suggestion! I did try the latest kernel 6.12 / nvidia drivers 565 on arch. It did seem to help suspend (the few times I tried it). However, with these new drivers I’m also getting frequent random reboots. So it’s back to the 535 drivers for me…again. Thanks anyway, i appreciate your help. In the event that its the kernel update and not the latest nvidia drivers, i’ll update. But i’m pretty sure it’s going to be nvidia drivers causing instability, as has been the case for many months now.

Fallout 76 is unplayable with NVIDIA 560.35 on Fedora 40 KDE running Wayland. With the 555 drivers, I was getting between 45-55 fps at medium-high settings at native resolution. With 560, I get 2-6 fps, at the lowest settings, non-native resolution. There is also occasional smearing and artifacts during gameplay. It even stutters horribly at the menu.

You should use 565.77. There are some unofficial patches for 560 that works too, for most people.

Looks like this old bug has come to haunt us still. It was not fully fixed. Hyprland recently implemented fading of these CTMs (including the night light filter from hyprsunset) and the issue is back. On my multi monitor setup (not a PRIME setup) toggling the night light causes one of my monitors to freeze literally EVERY time. Can bring my stuff back by going to tty2 and back to tty1.

Repro steps:

launch hyprland on latest master and ensure you have hyprsunset latest master also installed / executable. Ensure you’re using a multi monitor setup. Simply run hyprsunset with the simple command hyprsunset -t 2000

you will notice at least one of the screens freeze, maybe both.

Hopefully this issue is observable on your end.

I want to use TuxedoOS4 but every offloaded application starts to crash after a while.

I had another screen freeze.

In the background I had just started journalctl -f in a terminal and when this familiar screen flicker happened I switched to the terminal window with journalctl and not long the screen was already frozen.

After restarting, I queried journalctl as follows:

The screen freeze was around 13:57:00.

Before the screen freeze, of which I had taken a photo and subsequently marked the area in the journal extract below, there were no nvidia-related error messages.
