590 release feedback & discussion

I’ve been experiencing the following but for months and the 590 driver hasn’t changed anything.

Describe the bug

After allowing the screen to lock, and then sleep, my G93SC drops from 240Hz to 60Hz. I am not able to change the refresh rate back to 240Hz until I reboot or turn the display off and on again.

What did you expect to happen?

The monitor should resume back into 240hz, not force a 60hz refresh rate.

Hardware

System Specs:
i7 13700k
MSI Gaming Trio Nvidia RTX 4090
G93SC Samsung monitor
64GB of DDR5 Ram
HDMI 2.1

Extra information or context

Attempting this on DP 1.4 results in the monitor never waking up at all.

This bug is repeatable regardless of distro or DE. It works totally fine in Windows however.

posted bug report in the wrong thread, will link here: 580 release feedback & discussion - #959 by faz

i was able to get a video showcasing the bug here. It’s making the game entirely unplayable for me really.

Can also confirm the weird grid issue and crashes in TLoU2

@aplattner Has this issue been resolved yet? This bug is driving me nuts. I would suggest the Linux Driver team fix this issue on GNOME please while streaming on discord

@aplattner if the youtube video is not public yet i have uploaded the video on this forum

Now that DLSS 4.5 is a thing, is Nvidia going to fix broken frame generation on Linux? Just wondering. Its only been broken for years.

It would be nice to narrow the issue down since it’s not as universal as you seem to think. Both smooth motion and DLSS framegen are working okay for me on an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, CachyOS. FWIW, DLSS gets reflected in mangogud while smooth motion does not (but it’s still pretty obviously working).

Dear Magigamix,

We have root caused this issue and it is Freon utility bug, and the details are captured at https://github.com/UshakovVasilii/gnome-shell-extension-freon/issues/306

please fix my gnome screen sharing issue

I also have this issue with Zenless Zone Zero for when i turn on DLSS everything just goes black.

nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (1.9 MB)

I launched Zenless Zone Zero using (DXVK_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% -use-d3d12) since that is the only way to get rtx and dlss to work on Zenless Zone Zero

Hi @redhatwattana

Did Gnome screen sharing worked on previous drivers ?

I would like to report Resident Evil 2 fails to launch with the above error when using WineWayland.

Repro steps:

Use a proton version with wine wayland (proton ge, proton em)

Enable env var PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and launch the game

Game crashes with this error as above. Below is the bug report log.

That sounds like for native only.

Of course none of the bugs I’ve reported for years are on that list.

I just moved to GNOME recently so I am not sure. I have seen that my friends who used GNOME also have issues like this going on.

Do you know if the graphical glitches appearing in RE Engine games is also being investigated (see https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/590-release-feedback-discussion/353310/167 and 590 release feedback & discussion - #168 by BlueGoliath)? This seems to be an issue with latest drivers.

It was initially flagged with report 5761897, but your description mentions another issue with Avowed (which might be related though).

Hi I have this issue as well and know another person who has it as well. All on GNOME. This has been an issue for several driver versions now and is nothing new. Though I think it wasn’t always the case but I am not sure when it started.
