After adding a new partition, the burning prompt might be timeout in USB write

Hello,
I’m trying to flash my Jetson Orin NX in JetPack 5.1.5 after added two custom partitions, but When I flash the machine, it prompts an error,Please help me look at this problem

[ 0.5679 ] ERROR: might be timeout in USB write.
Error: Return value 3
Command tegrarcm_v2 --instance 1-3 --chip 0x23 0 --pollbl --download bct_mem mem_rcm_sigheader.bct.encrypt --download blob blob.bin

The following is my system environment:

I installed a 256SSD on the backplane. Then I modified the xml configuration file and added two custom partitions. I set EXT_NUM_SECTORS=536870912 in jetson-orin-nano-devkit.conf,

The flashing instructions I used:

# Generate images for QSPI
sudo ROOTFS_AB=1 ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh --showlogs -p "-c bootloader/t186ref/cfg/flash_t234_qspi.xml" --no-flash --network usb0 jetson-orin-nano-devkit internal
# Generate images for external storage device
sudo ROOTFS_AB=1 ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh --showlogs --no-flash --external-device nvme0n1p1 -c ./tools/kernel_flash/flash_l4t_t234_nvme_rootfs_ab.xml --external-only --append --network usb0 jetson-orin-nano-devkit external
# Flash images into the both storage devices
sudo ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh --showlogs --network usb0 --flash-only

The following is my configuration,flash_l4t_t234_nvme_rootfs_ab.xml:

Based on the provided context, it appears that you are trying to flash your Jetson Orin NX with a custom configuration that includes two additional partitions. However, you are encountering an error during the flashing process.

To help you troubleshoot this issue, let’s break down the key points from your system environment and configuration:

  1. System Environment:
    • You have a Jetson Orin NX module.
    • You have installed a 256GB SSD on the backplane.
    • You have modified the jetson-orin-nano-devkit.conf file to add two custom partitions.
    • You have set EXTNUMSECTORS=536870912 in the jetson-orin-nano-devkit.conf file.
  2. Flashing Instructions:
    • You are using the flash.sh script to flash the device.
    • You are using the flash_l4t_t234_nvme.xml configuration file.
    • You are specifying the rootfs-ab.xml file as the root file system configuration.

Now, let’s compare your configuration with the recommended configurations provided in the context:

  • The jetson-orin-nano-devkit-super-nvme.conf file is recommended for flashing the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit with the Orin Nano or Orin NX modules with Super profile. However, you are using the jetson-orin-nano-devkit.conf file, which might not be the correct configuration for your setup.
  • The EXTNUMSECTORS value you specified (536870912) seems to be correct for a 256GB SSD.
  • The flash_l4t_t234_nvme.xml configuration file is recommended for flashing the Jetson Orin NX/Nano series system with NVMe storage. However, you are using the rootfs-ab.xml file as the root file system configuration, which might not be compatible with the flash_l4t_t234_nvme.xml file.

To resolve the issue, you can try the following:

  1. Use the recommended jetson-orin-nano-devkit-super-nvme.conf file instead of the jetson-orin-nano-devkit.conf file.
  2. Verify that the EXTNUMSECTORS value is correct for your SSD capacity.
  3. Use the recommended flash_l4t_t234_nvme.xml configuration file with the correct root file system configuration (e.g., rootfs-nvme.xml).

If you are still encountering issues, please provide more details about the error message you are seeing, and I’ll be happy to help you further.

*** Please give the thumbs up if you get answers you like. Or provide feedback to help us improve the answer. ***

I don’t want to use the Super profile, only the normal mode, and switching to Super doesn’t solve the current problem.

Sorry for the late response.
Is this still an issue to support? Any result can be shared?
