Camera RTCPU gone bad after 49.7 days - fix available?

Hi,

we are seeing the 49.7-day “Camera RTCPU gone bad” failure on Jetson Xavier NX, L4T 35.6.0

2025-12-02T00:45:14.093389+00:00 ivii-iriis-232240000770 kernel: \[4295040.231028\] tegra186-cam-rtcpu bc00000.rtcpu: Alert: Camera RTCPU gone bad! restoring it immediately

Kernel timestamp at failure is ~4295000s, i.e. the 2^32ms rollover — the same root cause as in these threads:

The answer given there was: fixed in JetPack 6.2.2 / L4T 36.5.0, no patch for r35. But Xavier NX cannot move to JetPack 6 — T194 is not supported there. That leaves us with a device family where a known, reproducible failure has no fix path at all.

So, concretely:

  • Is there any JetPack 5 / L4T 35.x release in which this is fixed for T194? A yes or no is enough to unblock our planning.
  • If no: is a patched camera-rtcpu-t194-rce.img planned, and on what timeline? We are happy to validate a test binary in a 60-day run.
  • If it is won’t-fix for T194, please say so explicitly and add it to the L4T 35.x release notes as a known issue. It is not documented anywhere today, and we only discovered it after a unit failed in the field.

We have units in production and need to know whether to plan mandatory reboots below 49 days or wait for a firmware fix.

Thanks.

hello MarkusHess,

just an FYI, JetPack 5 upcoming End-of-Life notice.

>> Q1
there’s no JetPack 5 / L4T 35.x release include this 49.7-day bug fix.

>> Q2
we’ll not back-port this change to rel-35. so, there’s no patched camera-rtcpu-t194-rce.img available.

>> Q3

I agree, let me arrange resources for checking it.

yes, you should have to plan this.

Hi JerryChang,

bad news… May, are there sources available for the firmware, so that we could try to fix it on our own? We could also sign a NDA if necessary.

Of course, new devices are based on Orin, but there are a lot of Xavier based devices in the field that are affected by this bug. So, it would be good if we can find any solution to solve this issue.

hello MarkusHess,

please check the attachment, Bug6721585_Sep08.zip (254.1 KB)
it should address this specific 24/7 camera-stream failure after ~49.7 days for JP-5.1.7/r35.6.5 on Xavier.
please apply the attached t194 rce-fw for testing, looking forward to your test results.
