Driver unable to read EDID from HDMI under these conditions:
- HDMI is functioning properly at 1920x1080.
- Turn off HDMI monitor
- Desktop turns off display after X minutes.
- Turn on HDMI monitor
- Press a key to turn back on display and login
- Failure because the driver is unable to read the EDID.
To recover I have to alt-f1 to console and then alt-f2 back to the GUI. The resolution is now the default VGA of 1024x768. Once logged back in I have to manually change the resolution back to 1920x1080.
