Chokes on HDMI lines and parts sequence

Hi,

We are designing a custom carrier board for Orin NX SOMs. One point which is not clear is the Common Mode Chokes and ESD section in Figure 9-7 on the Design Guide. I have attached the image below.

In this picture the Resistors are after the ESD and Common Mode Chokes.

But in the Concept Schematics the common mode chokes are in PCB CO-LAYOUT with the resistors and they are designated as NO STUFF and ESD is after the resistors.

There are two main questions that we have.

  1. Is a common mode choke necessary?
  2. Is the sequence of Resistors, ESD and Choke (if needed) fixed or they can be switched to a certain degree?

Common mode choke is not recommended, only used if absolutely required for EMI issues.
