CUDA System Which system around the Tesla C1060

Hello,

I’m a student and searching for information to built a computer system with a Tesla C1060 for science computing. My problem is that i don’t now how dimensioned the system arround the Tesla.

So my question is what hardware you would choose if you would have 2000-3000€ ???

Tesla C1060 is expensive, although it has 4GB RAM.

do you need 4GB RAM in your application? if not, you can choose other game card instead, for example, GTX280 or GTX285,

the price is only 1/3 of TeslaC1060

Yes, i think we need the 4 GB memory because we would like to compute big matrix operations.

Then I think the main requirements are:

  • 4 GB of system memory

  • PCI-Express 2.0

  • Power supply with appropriate connectors to drive a C1060

Everything else depends on the CPU side of your code. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Core i7 and either 3x2GB of 6x2GB of RAM.

For starters, make sure:

  1. The system has a power supply that can support the rest of the system plus the ~200 Watts for the C1060.

  2. The power supply has the correct connectors: 1 8-pin or 2 6-pin PCI-e aux power connectors.

  3. The board has a physical PCI-e X16 slot available and that the slot is at least X8 electrically.

  4. There is enough physical clearance in the system for the C1060 on the board itself, in the system and with other cards installed.

  5. There is adequate cooling for the added heat of the C1060.

Thx. Its possible for me to get the Tesla for 650 if i joint the developer program ??

NVIDIA periodically has specials on the Tesla cards. The last one ended at the end of July I believe. I couldn’t tell you when they will do it again.
