Hi, the video on my machine keeps crashing even when doing light activity (not clear how to reproduce this issue, but it is consistently happening every few hours).
Symptoms:
- the video shuts down
- the fans start spinning at high speed
By running dmesg I get
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:68:00): 79, GPU has fallen off the bus.
I am attaching the nvidia bug report.
To give a bit of context here are the details of the two GPU cards:
- 67:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU102 [GeForce RTX 2080 Ti] (rev a1)
- 68:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU102 [TITAN RTX] (rev a1)

Most common reasons for XID 79 are overheating and insufficient/unstable power supply. Monitor temperatures, check/replace your PSU.
Also try updating your system BIOS.
Hi, thanks for the answers!
As an update:
-
Bios was already up to date so that does not look like to be the issue.
-
I have removed the card on PCI 67 (the one that was not giving problems) and I am currently not experiencing any more of these issues.
So it would seem that there is indeed insufficient power supply… however it is a 1600w PSU, so I am a bit surprised. Anyways, thanks for the support, I’ll ask my vendor and give an update here once I this case is closed.
